Use Google Chrome in Ways you’ve Never Thought Possible
Like most other web browsers, Google’s Chrome was also built for browsing the web. It is the perfect tool for reading the news, searching for mobile pokies reviews, playing YouTube videos, and doing so in a simple, user-friendly environment with as few distractions as possible. Google Chrome is good for other things than just browsing the web, though – thanks to the numerous add-ons and extensions, it can often prove an invaluable companion (after all, an operating system wasn’t built around it for no reason, right?). So let’s take a look at some uses for Google Chrome you’ve never thought about.
Plain text or code editor
Did you know that Google Chrome can double as a plain text/code editor? As you might expect, there are quite a few extensions that will help you use it as such.
The simplest of them all is perhaps Writebox, created by @shibuyak25. Available at this address, Writebox will offer you the opportunity to take notes or create articles right in your browser window. The app can save your text files in your Dropbox or Google Drive, and without storing your password, keeping it secure. You can use Writebox from home or from another person’s computer – just don’t forget to clear the cookies once you’re done. Combined with the Grammarly extension (free or paid), you can even make sure your text is always error-free.
Other extensions that offer text and code editing in your browser include Text, Quick Text Editor, Noteblock, and many others.
Email & Google Calendar client
Most email users have to choose between constantly keeping their webmail open in a separate tab to keep their inbox tidy or running a third-party email client. There is an in-between solution, though, available for Google Chrome users, called “Checker Plus”, written by Jason Savard, aka “The Green Programmer“.
Checker Plus for Gmail will sit quietly in your extension area (the top right zone with the extension icons in it) and notify you of any new email you receive. To read it, you simply click on the icon – it will open an inbox allowing to read the message, mark it as read, mark it as spam, and delete it if necessary. Checker Plus for Google Calendar will keep track of your upcoming meetings and tasks, and remind you of them on time, while Checker Plus for Google Drive offers you a fast way to access your files stored in the cloud.
